Many women look and feel sexy, professional with a of boost
confidence in high heel shoes. In reality, while the heely shoes might be
beautiful and hard to resist, researchers point to some side effects that come
about from wearing high heels regularly.
Regular wearing of heels causes the tendons, especially the achiles
tendon to shorten, leaving a strain on the muscles of the calf to do all
the work. Strides are also more forceful and shorter in women who often wear
these shoes, even without heels on.
There are several other problems that arise from wearing
heels regularly that are indisputable. With each inch added to a heel, greater
problems can arise a 3-inch heel which most experts consider a heel
"high" at 2 inches or more -- creates three to six times more stress
on the front of the foot than a shoe with a modest one-inch heel.. There are
also ways to wear heels more safely...
Wearing high heels is especially stressful on the joints of
the foot because all of the body's weight rests there; the foot is then forced
into a narrow, pointed toe box, compounding the problem.
Doctors of podiatric medicine have these findings that high
heels may contribute to knee and back problems, disabling injuries in falls,
shortened calf muscles, and an awkward, unnatural gait. In time, high heels may
cause enough changes in the feet to impair their proper function. Most women
admit high heels make their feet hurt, but they tolerate the discomfort in
order to look taller, stylish, and more professional. Osteoarthritis is the
most common form of arthritis, and it's twice as common in women. Research has
shown that the use of heels is a likely reason.
High heels shift the force of each of those steps so that
the most pressure ends up on the ball of the foot and on the bones at the base
of the toes. As a result, heels can lead to bunions, heel pain, toe
deformities, shortened Achilles tendons, and trapped nerves, a permanent
deformity of the toe joint in which the toe bends up slightly and then curls
downward, resting on its tip. Most of these surgeries can be linked back to the
regular use high-heeled shoe.
Only a tiny percentage of people are born with foot
problems. Most conditions arise from neglect or simply not knowing how to care
for your feet. Women are particularly vulnerable.
The best ways to wear high shoes notwithstanding include;
Wear soft insoles in your heels to get a
little more support and cushioning for the foot and heel.
· Only use high heels on days when you have little walking
to do, and few high energy activities to get to. Rushing around in heels can become
uncomfortable very quickly.
· Use high heels for special occasions rather than on a
regular or daily basis. Using them less frequently will reduce the long term
effects of high heels.
