Cancer! The very word that strikes terror in the hearts of most women. Every woman should be informed as to where cancer is likely to strike and what she can do about discovering its presence at the earliest possible moment. For the earlier the diagnosis is made, the better her chances of complete care.

Breast cancer is the most frequent form of malignancy in women. It can occur at any stage of a woman's life. LUMP THICKENING is usually the first sign of cancer; this may appear in any part of the breast. The most frequent place is that part of the breast nearer to the shoulder. The lumps are painless, painful lumps are usually due to inflammation.

The normal shape of the breast may be altered, there may be a flattening on the affected side, later a dimpling on the skin may appear.
If the nipple is affected it may sink downwards or tilt towards the direction of the affected tumor.
As the tumor grows it takes up more space and the breast becomes larger. The breast later becomes as hard as normal tissues and is replaced by the dense, tough mass of cancer, this is why early detection is very necessary.

Sometimes a different type of cancer can occur in the breast. A raw moist irritation can be seen around the nipple, this discharge tends to dry on the skin forming a crust. This can easily be mistaken for a type of ezcema and be treated as such but the real disease may be some form of cancer. If this is noticed kindly see a doctor.
Many lives could be saved if only women examine their own breasts each month, just after their menstural period is over. Every woman should learn to this herself. She should continue this each month for the rest of her life, even when she has passed menopause, remember breast cancer can develop at any stage in life.
